1 – Tell us a bit about yourself
Hey I’m Ben! Freelance motion designer. 28 years old.
2 – How and when did you get started?
My first job was as a web developer but quickly got a new job as a graphic designer in a small marketing agency. I learnt a lot about how businesses work during my time there and then about a year ago I went full time freelance and focused on motion graphics. I spent the last month at the company creating a showreel and portfolio website ready to share with the world day one.
3 – What has been your most satisfying moment so far?
Actually doing it. Taking the leap. Getting paid to do what I love and be in full control of it all.
4 – What motivates/drives you?
I mean money is always a factor but the main reason I went freelance was the flexibility and the type of work. Being freelance means I can choose my clients and find the right type of work for me.
5 – What advice would you give yourself at the start of your career?
Commit 100%. The more you commit the more you will succeed. Don’t tell your friends your “trying freelance for a bit”. Tell them you are a freelancer. Believe in yourself and others will too. On the practical side a little savings helps and cold emails really helped me find my first paying customers (:
